Interactive campaign provides tools for individuals and businesses to support renewable energy, launched Monday, March 1
SAN FRANCISCO, CA—Center for Resource Solutions on Monday launched their “Buy Clean Energy 2010” campaign, which encourages individuals and organizations to buy renewable energy in support of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.
The campaign website gives users tools to research local utility green-power programs, or buy renewable energy certificates (RECs) via the “Buy Now” button, then routes them back to the site to share personal testimonials about the importance of purchasing clean energy. Participants can also share their positive actions with friends and contacts on popular social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter.
Built by Linden, a Fort Collins-based marketing firm, the site’s streamlined, three-step approach will help convert the many households and businesses who are pro-renewable energy into active consumers by demystifying the sign-up process. Its interactive components are aimed at highlighting users’ personal reasons for supporting clean energy as a way to garnish more support throughout 2010, with an ultimate goal of gaining 1 billion unique kilowatt-hours purchased through the site.
Supporting organizations of the campaign include organizations and businesses such as the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Xcel Energy, Sterling Planet, EcoElectrons, the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) and Earth Day Network.
“Buying clean energy is one of the most important tools consumers and businesses have to reduce the impact of their electricity use,” said CRS Executive Director Arthur O’Donnell. “That’s why this campaign is so important. No matter what our politics or our perspectives on climate change, we can all agree that building more renewable energy will result in fewer emissions, less pollution, more stable energy prices, and job creation. This is the one thing consumers can do now to make a big impact.”
Cara Eastwood, Linden’s CRS account executive added, “Up until now, actually buying clean energy was a relatively convoluted process. With the new user-friendly tools available at http://buycleanenergy.org, the hope is that everyone who supports the idea of operating their home or business on renewables will be able to follow through on that commitment before the end of the year.”
Buy Clean Energy 2010 can be found at http://buycleanenergy.org, and will run throughout 2010. For more information on the campaign, or to set up an interview, contact Jeff Swenerton at (415) 561-2119 or (415) 265-8142 (cell).
