GoLinden: @aldozelnick just won the Colorado Book Award in Juvenile Lit! Congrats @karlaosh and @kendraspanjer, we're proud of you!
Certainly the process of road construction can cause inconvenience and a test of patience — especially when it happens in your own front yard. Earlier this year, construction began to convert Howes Street from a one-way road to a two-way road. This was the early stage of the Mason Street Corridor project.
Certainly the process was an inconvenience and it was taking a long time due to a wet spring. But the creative team at Linden decided that instead of swearing at the workers, why not thank them for making Fort Collins a better place? Why not invite them on the porch for a real coffee break? Why not treat them with the same respect we ourselves would demand?
On April 20, 2009, that's exactly what the Linden team did. Teased with homemade chocolate chip cookies, hot chocolate and lattes', the construction crew working on the Howes project gathered on the Linden front porch. Good treats and good conversation were enjoyed which ultimately resulted in a better understanding of each other and the pitfalls of our chosen occupations.
In the end, everyone worked better because of the effort. The construction crew understood our need for access to our business and we understood their challenges. After all - Howes is now a two-way street, just like any good relationship.
